An Intro To Physical Theatre

You may have never heard the term, ‘Physical Theatre’ but actually, a lot of pole dance and aerial uses this. There is a large spectrum of what it can be. In general, it’s a mix of dance, theatre, sometimes with text and always telling some kind of story, it’s a fabulous way to tell your narratives, and you can see some examples below, as well as listening to this podcast, exclusive to Club SODA members.

Inspiration for: using text, performing as two characters, slick musical transitions, intense characters. Male and female identity

Joker (film)

(2019)

Joaquin Phoenix dancers during a moment of raged clarity / stress and emotion. Note the use of the music in the moment and how he watches his own hands.

Inspiration for: Slow very controlled movement. Showing sadness, rage, confusion and drama after a large action moment. Contemplative.
